Healing: Universal Spiritual Principles That Work
71Part One - Did you ever wonder how to use universally known spiritual principles in a practical way that can enhance your everyday life?
Indian proverb
There is an Indian proverb that says that everyone is a house with four rooms – a physical, an emotional, a mental and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room every day, even if only to keep it aired, we are not a complete person.
It really is important to fully furnish each and every room to gain the fullness life offers.
Balance in life is paramount in order to succeed.
Getting out of balance
How many times do we find ourselves getting out of balance? Just ask working parents with small children! They can tell you how difficult it is to function on little sleep and maintain balance. Ask a college student, ask a school teacher, ask a police officer.
We know we are out of balance when we feel stressed. We can feel stressed because of life tests like changing or losing a job, moving house, when a child is born, taking exams in college and when a friend or close relative dies. There are many reasons for stress and everyone has a different threshold of what they can tolerate and still function well in their daily routine.
Healing regains our balance
Healing is all about regaining our balance in life. As human beings we are complex and live on many levels simultaneously: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The easiest levels to access and exercise are the physical and mental levels. People are willing to exercise their bodies by going for a run or to the gym. We exercise our minds by going to college, watching a movie, reading a book or surfing the web.
Living on the surface of life vs. deeper levels
The physical and mental levels are living on the surface of life. When you go to the deeper levels of the emotional and spiritual rooms the exercise seems more difficult. It does not need to be. It only appears difficult because of a lack of familiarity and training.
When people think of the emotional level they usually think negatively of people who are depressed and need to go to a psychologist. When people think of the spiritual level, again, they usually think negatively of people who have too many problems in their life and need to go to church to get straightened out.
Mankind resists change
While both can be useful for troubled people they are not always necessary for the person who is interested in airing all four rooms, unafraid to investigate those rooms and decide to furnish them. Ideally, be that person who wants to get out in front of life tests before they show up on the horizon. If not, then be that person who is self-motivated, desiring to solve your own problems. Too often problems are chronic when people behave like sheep, expecting others to make their decisions, monitoring them constantly and micro-managing their progress.
There is a reason for the term “problem-solving.” Life throws us challenges and we are meant to understand how to grow from these tests. Most of us hate tests. Yet it is the life tests that cause us to grow and become wiser. Mankind resists change. Yet the more we resist the tougher the tests become because of our lack of emotional flexibility. That’s where the concept of Joy comes in to help us.
Joy is the fuel to maintain balance
Learning universal spiritual principles is how we get back in balance and maintain our joy in life no matter what comes our way. Maintaining your life balance requires great joy. Joy? Think about it. How many times when life was going your way, you were singing in the shower, humming a tune as you walked to the mailbox that everything was just perfect in your life at that moment in time? We have all had those moments.
Losing your Joy
Maybe you received some bad news or an unexpected bill in the mail. Maybe a person you know called and started talking about negative things you really did not want to hear. Have you ever noticed it was at that moment that your joy evaporated? You were left feeling stressed and, suddenly, out of balance again.
Definition of Joy and how to keep your Joy
Joy is defined as a source of happiness, to delight in something and feelings of great happiness or pleasure, especially of an elevated or spiritual kind. Joy can be found in the pleasure of just redecorating your house, baking some wonderful cookies and seeing the joy on others’ faces, a walk around the block, spend the afternoon golfing, sailing on the bay and other simple pleasures. Joy does not have to be blockbuster status to help maintain your balance though that level is really awesome to experience when it happens.
Joy is a spiritual principle as necessary to maintain as the planet maintains gravity. But how do you keep your joy?
Summary and blogs by Denny Lyon
Summary
Joy is necessary to maintain your balance in life. You can find joy in the smallest of things. Celebrate the small with the fantastic. Get to know every level of yourself: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Challenge yourself to visit all your inner rooms, choosing to live fully in each one. Begin to recognize what you call your joy in life. Write it down and revisit your list from time to time; expand your list.
These universal spiritual principles are a lot to absorb in one reading. This article is broken down into several parts so this knowledge is easier to digest and practice. Its one thing to mentally agree and think this is a great idea; it’s another to accept the concept on the emotional and spiritual levels and consciously begin the practice. That takes some time and is not done overnight. Eventually, the conscious practice becomes solidified into successful attitude and behavior.

Wonderful hub. Thanks to you I understood that there are more similarities than I thought between a room and my soul. My external and internal rooms are both untidy, messy and immoderate right now, but I'm working on it. It is true that personal evolution and introspection is an everyday exercise. Personally I think that the most difficult thing is to put theories and ideas in practice. This side of my 'Etre' is still under construction, I am unfortunately still a declared dreamer. It is true, however, that Dreams come true not just if we believe, but also if we create opportunities to grab them and send them to earth. This process requires a lot of energy and balance. Peace Denny Lyon!
Denny your hub was like a breath of fresh air :) Wonderful - thank you. There was a request about how to have balance in your life. Much of what you talked about the 4 sides I was going to respond with. Your hub is what she needs to digest - and she'll love every bite.
I heard of the rooms in a way of 4 horses pulling a carriage. If they're not pulling at the same stride (synergistically), we can go in circles. I love the way you wrote it instead - sweet Darlin' :)
Great hub- to keep in balance, I find it helpful to read inspirational words such as this hub. Isn't writing and reading wonderful? If I keep a balance between how often I read and how often I write, I am one happy girl! Balance with my two year old and my life- still need to work on that.
Have only just found this great hub. There's a great American Teacher Iyanla Vansant ( probably spelt wrong) who teaches through a house with all the rooms going upto the attic. But says most people stay in the basement but some occasionally go to the peace and higher levels of the attic and some want to stay there!
