Feed Your Soul

Soul affirmations are a way to look at nourishing your patient ancient soul and convincing your ego to play nice, cooperate and learn to share with others while letting your soul out to play.  It’s a way to blend the wise with the younger part of self still in the learning stage.

Our egos are trained and shaped and often defeated by the family and national culture into which we are born.  Once we become adults it is up to us to parent those parts of ourselves that have been undernourished, neglected.  Often we have been denied acceptance, understanding and love.

An easy way to begin that journey is to start with soul affirmations.  It allows our own soul to come out from under the lock and key of unbelief, finally able to help us in our daily lives, often healing us.

Affirmations are so simple on the intellectual level yet they have powerful effects on the emotional and spiritual levels.  Try meditating on the simplicity of one for a few days or weeks, thinking of variations of your own.  What you will find is that your soul will send up all your negative defeatist thoughts for you to see clearly.  Then you can take action by applying the positive thought and statement to the negative.  Eventually, the power of the negative beliefs fall away as you practice a healthier thought culture.

When I was working my way out of an abusive family culture, no matter how strong and tough I was, it was still evident to me there were negative thought “left-overs” – bad programming - that needed to be addressed.  I refused to stay down or allow anyone to negatively define my confidence level so I started developing my own affirmations to help me get complete freedom.  Since we just celebrated All Souls Day what better time to think of our souls and help heal ourselves?  Here are a few affirmations that helped to change my life for the better!

5 Powerful Soul Affirmations

I can achieve - if only I allow it. I do achieve.

I can live happy - if I choose to practice choosing it.  I choose to be happy.

I can learn whatever is required to fulfill my daily life and it’s in perfect timing, appearing right when I need it. I learn easily and it fits me perfectly.

I am not defined by what other people say to me.  I define who I am.

I am loved.  I am loved. I am loved. I am loved. I love.

Soul Awareness

Poem: Soul Journey

Friendship Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes we banish our best friend

When our awareness is young but

Our soul returns again and again

Offering daily help and new insight

Cold Soul Photo by Hamed Parham @ flickr
Cold Soul Photo by Hamed Parham @ flickr

Sometimes we deny our soul

Withering into the cold slowly

Our soul waits and pines to

Be free of its confining prison

Whispering Secrets Photo by HAMED MASOUMI @ flickr

Sometimes we loose our soul

When we choose to love another

Our soul rejoices to live abundantly

Offering kindness to spread around

Tears: Baptism of the Soul Photo by honikum @ flickr
Tears: Baptism of the Soul Photo by honikum @ flickr

Sometimes events sadly happen

When love goes wrong and ends

Our soul weeps to be joined again

Giving us strength to begin anew

A Matter of the Heart Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr
A Matter of the Heart Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes we are perplexed by life’s absurdity

The love heart confounds us, shattering fantasies

Our soul plunges the dark abyss of emotions to

Lift us back to safe ground and new understanding

U will never know wonderment Photo by honikum @ flickr
U will never know wonderment Photo by honikum @ flickr

Sometimes we revel in the wonderment

Transfixed by the starring moment

Our soul celebrates our latest discovery

Guarding carefully our dreaming time

Serene Photo by honikum @ flickr
Serene Photo by honikum @ flickr

Sometimes we are in tune with Nature

Inhabiting that perfect place of serenity

Our soul sighs in the beauty of resting union

Observing us present in Time with eternity

You need to know what really happened! Photo by honikum @ flickr

Sometimes we are out of tune with everything

Insisting upon our own pleasure and willful way

Our soul extends us a loving patient hand

Guiding us at a slower pace until we peacefully agree

Inspiration Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes we rise up on new inspirations

Secure in the larger awareness of soul

Our soul gently cradles our expanding minds

Waiting, assisting in our next evolving step

Next Dimension Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr
Next Dimension Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes we suddenly conceive what is beyond us

Yearning to reach new dimensions undiscovered

Our soul cheers our efforts no matter how small

Protecting our new knowledge now conscious

Feelings Flying Too High Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes when reaching high too fast

Frightened of intense emotions flood rising

Our soul descends to cover with darkness

Quieting our fears, steadying us once more

Book of Transition Photo by alicepopkorn @ flickr

Sometimes as we learn our inner depths

Struggling against all odds for illumination

Our soul warms us with healing inner fire

Powering us mightily for the Transition

Lightness Photo by alicepopkorn @ flickr

Sometimes there are spiritual leaps forward

Forcefully exploding within and without

Our soul glimmers with rising anticipation

Savoring soon our completed inner union

Surrender Photo by alicepopkorn @ flickr

Sometimes we are stressed to nearly breaking

Agonizing over the temporary and unimportant

Our soul braves the chaos of inner darkness to

Pull us back from the brink of wrong surrender

Invisible Photo by alicepopkorn @ flickr

Sometimes we live as if disappearing invisible

Wandering and stumbling in the shifting fog

Our soul calls us, encouraging return to Hope

Singing soothing words on our long journey

Introvert Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr
Introvert Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes we turn inward ferociously

Blocking a world too much coming our way

Our soul cocoons us ever silent and vigilant

Rocking us sweetly on the churning stormy waters

Egos Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr
Egos Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes our ego performs painfully under many masks

Role playing for decades, often an entire life time

Our soul suffocates, groaning under heavy pretense

Stripping down unworthy deception and hiding lies

Present in the Now Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr
Present in the Now Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes we reach so high we forget how greedy

Grasping is not the same as eagerly reaching

Our soul steers us once more toward respect

Standing still with layering Time to greet us

Spiritual Grace Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr
Spiritual Grace Photo by h.koppdelaney @ flickr

Sometimes we arrive triumphant at our destination

Harmonized with Eternity’s shimmering playground

Our soul relaxes and melts into simple ecstasy

Knowing we will now turn back for others

*** The Social Poets - A blog where there is critical thinking news analysis along with news opinion to keep both sides of the political aisle honest in their debates and struggles for power.

I'm a Social Issues Poet (SIP), a term I coined to describe a poet concerned about society, both the ills and the triumphs. Since the economy has been so chaotic the poetry is not as frequent. Hi, AID Y, thanks for visiting! Been doing daily posting on my 12 blogs, taking up waaaay too much time and not publishing enough for HP... but, at least I get to audition some work there first to see how it flashes or fizzles with the readers. :) This poem was a favorite with hundreds immediately and also reflects a lifetime of studying and learning - so it happens to be my favorite work of the moment these days.

If I jettisoned this planet Earth today I'd be happy to have this particular poem as my only writing legacy.

The art photos are awesome and are from my flickr contacts. Two of them are h.koppdelaney and alicepopkorn, both practicing Buddhists from Germany counterbalancing to my mystical Christian in America. Fun!

Hi, tonymac04, thanks for the kind compliment! You are one together peaceful kind of guy, always enjoy your hubs on jazz, though I sure don't know enough about the technical end or musical minute subtleties but your writing sure makes it easier to grasp it. Thank you!

Hi, Narde, thanks for visiting. It is odd how sometimes our souls can connect in the Spirit even though we have never met in "official" time. I feel that often with others - like you did here - so I totally relate to you. There is something about tapping into that spiritual river that keeps flowing, so easy to hitch a ride and go anywhere... meet anyone... so effortlessly.

I've been moving my poems over to my poetry-news-humor blog: The Social Poets, http://thesocialpoets.blogspot.com.

(Nothing like spamming my own comment box.) Fridays are when I put up a new poem every week - stop in for a visit! So glad to have connected with you here, Narde!
